Beekeeping for Beginners: 2-Part Class
Saturday, February 23 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
One event on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 12:00pm
This fun and comprehensive workshop is perfect for anyone curious about beekeeping, and will provide valuable information for those serious about getting started.
Part 1 is in the classroom (February 23rd OR March 23rd): Before you dive headfirst into beekeeping, there are many things you need to know! Expert beekeepers Steven and James will teach you about basic bee biology and behavior, and the skills and equipment needed to establish, maintain and protect a honey bee colony in your own backyard.
Part 2 is on location at Whitehall Farms in Clifton, Va. (April 6th @3pm, with a rain date of April 27): Steven and James’ company, HiveHive, maintains multiple beehives at Whitehall Farms, which are instrumental in pollinating the many crops grown there. This class will meet at Whitehall from 10-11am, and get a hands-on opportunity to work with a live hive.
If, after this course, you think you’re ready to get started, Steven and James will help you procure your hive and bees, and offer you a few options for help with maintenance in the first year and beyond.
