(FREE) Salon: Think Before You Spit: At-Home DNA Testing
Wednesday, April 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
We are in the middle of a genomics revolution. In fact, you’ve probably seen a genetic testing kit on the shelf of your local Walgreens. But is it really as simple as spitting into a tube? In this Salon, we’ll talk about what to consider before sending off a direct-to-consumer genetic test, like 23andme or Ancestry.com. Do you know what you’re looking for, and how accurate these tests are for your specific question? Do you have the support needed to help integrate the findings you receive?
Rachel Nusbaum, founder of Orchid Story, LLC, has practiced in the field of genetic counseling for over a decade, and will facilitate this lively discussion about where science meets real life. (Rachel will not provide personal medical advice to participants but will happily make referrals to her genetic counseling friends upon request.)
A Note About Salon Events:
Salon Series events are FREE, but you must reserve your space by registering below. Donations are accepted to defray the cost of space rental.
Each event is facilitated by a “host” who has expertise in this topic area. The host will introduce the theme for the evening, and facilitate a lively group discussion.
Each Salon event is a potluck dinner, and participants are invited to contribute to the spread. If you are not able to bring something, please come as you are! There is always plenty of food… Drinks are provided.
Space is limited to 10 people per event, and spots go quickly. It’s important that you honor your commitment to attend. If you need to cancel for any reason, please contact us asap so we can give your spot to someone on the waitlist.
