Mindfulness for 6th Graders (Six-Week Series)
Wednesday, January 23, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 5:45 pm
An event every week that begins at 4:30pm on Wednesday, repeating until Wednesday, February 27, 2019
As students enter higher grades, academic and social pressures increase dramatically. In this 6-week course, students are invited to explore mindfulness and build their own life skills “tool kits” that can help them thrive and navigate life’s challenges most effectively. Classes are set in a warm and supportive environment, and each includes:
- Introduction of new topics and skills
- Time to practice the new skills and discuss or reflect on their experiences
- Engaging activities, including mindful movement
- Mindfulness challenges to try in between classes
Scientifically validated studies have demonstrated wide-ranging benefits of mindfulness, including reduced anxiety, improved stress management, greater self-compassion and empathy, and much more. Kids are welcome to repeat this class as many times as they want! The core instruction remains the same, but we include new exercises and discussions each time, so the material remains engaging.
“By practicing mindfulness, kids learn life skills that help them soothe and calm themselves, bring awareness to their inner and outer experience, and bring a reflective quality to their actions and relationships.” Susan Kaiser Greenland, Cofounder and Executive Director of the Inner Kids Foundation, Author of The Mindful Child.
